Megan Kelsey2 StarMiscalculations, Penalties, & Poor Communication
Aaron is a nice guy, but unfortunately our experience with him was disappointing and has caused us quite a bit of stress. Two years in a row, he was out of contact right up to the final hours on Tax Day. Last year, we sent all our documents mid-March and did not hear from Aaron (despite reaching out several times via email, phone, and text) until the last minute about our return (the evening of Tax Day). This April, we sent everything over 10 days prior to Tax Day. Unfortunately, I apparently missed an important detail buried in the middle of one of his newsletters outlining that all data was needed 2 weeks prior to April 15th. It would have been helpful to have been informed of this in a clearer manner, or to have been told on April 5th that our return likely wouldn't be filed in time. Rather, I worried all through Tax Day, and then I received an email at 11pm from Aaron saying he wouldn't be getting around to our return and would be filing an extension on our behalf. He made sure to let us know we would be breaking even, so there would be no penalties.
In actuality, it appears Aaron did not take a close enough look at our numbers, because we still owed nearly $10,000 in federal and state income taxes. The worst part about all of this is that I had been paying Aaron to calculate our quarterly estimated taxes. We have since learned (through our new CPA) that my husband's income was not being factored into Aaron's calculations, specifically in regards to the marginal tax rates. It was deeply unsettling to find out about all of this when you are paying someone to make sure you are calculating everything correctly and paying what you owe before late fees and penalties apply.
Following Tax Day, Aaron was supposed to send over our return "next week." Next week turned into early/mid-May. I reached out to him several times with no response. I then let him know we would be seeking CPA services elsewhere and within minutes, he emailed over an invoice for estimated voucher calculations and 1099's. I did not know at the time that these estimated vouchers I was paying for would turn out to be completely miscalculated. I wish I could get a refund.
I worked with Aaron for several years and I believe he is just very busy and may have too many clients to give all of them the attention they deserve. I wish I could go back to last year when our tax return was almost late and tell myself to find a different CPA. It would have saved us the hundreds we now owe in penalties, and having to pay for miscalculated estimated tax payments.
I'm glad this saga is over, and I've now educated myself on tax withholdings and marginal tax rates to better understand what a CPA is doing (or not doing).Tuesday 2nd July 2019
Erin Conner2 StarIt all started out pretty well. I filed my 2016 taxes with Aaron. However when issues cam up with that return, Aaron was AWOL. To date I have followed up quite a few times to no avail. I am disappointed because Aaron was recommended by a trusted friend. I feel that there is a lack of professionalism and integrity. The tax process is an ongoing one that requires multiple interventions. If you are unable to see a process through, it would be best to be up front at the onset and say no.Thursday 6th June 2019
Christopher Bloom1 StarWe filed our taxes with Aaron in 2018 for Calendar Year 2017 and everything went well. In less than an hour, I had my taxes done and filed.
This year (2019 for the 2018 Calendar Year) has been a completely different story. I submitted my documents to Aaron electronically about two weeks prior to the filing deadline. I received an email at 9pm on filing day saying he was too swamped with the new tax regulations and was going to be unable to complete our taxes by the deadline and would file an extension and then complete them.
Two months, five emails and a voice message later, and I have yet to receive a direct response about my taxes. I received a document to e-sign which was incorrect (so I emailed in the correct info, again) and I've received a bill for service (what service?...)
I'm disappointed and will not be using Peters and Associates again.Thursday 20th June 2019
The Abbetts5 StarWe’ve been using Peters & Associates to do our tax prep for 3 or 4 years now! Aaron is an exceptional accountant & has helped us fix other accountants mistakes and taken care of our taxes each year! He is a bit pricey, but his service, advice, and guidance is well worth every penny!Tuesday 11th May 2021
Rebekah Emily Photography5 StarReally cannot recommend Aaron highly enough. Aside from being knowledgable, helpful, professional, and extremely skilled at what he does, Aaron is also genuinely pleasant to work with. My husband and I now look forward to tax season every year because Aaron makes it so EASY and always takes the time to thoughtfully and honestly answer all of our questions! He always goes above and beyond and deserves the highest accolades!Tuesday 13th February 2018
