Michael Harkin5 StarI have been working with Van Lanier and his team at NOVA Accounting for over a decade and have been beyond impressed. His ability to streamline and stabilize my accounting system has ensured years of reliable and efficient tax reporting. But Van provides far more than just end of year tax filing.
The biggest stress from taxes comes with trying to sort through a year's worth of transactions in the month or two prior to tax filing. Van takes away that worry by offering year-around support through his subscription program. This process ensures that your bookkeeping is kept up to date each month, so when it comes time to file your taxes, all the work has been done.
I never worry about tax filing anymore. Even better, I can actually plan (in advance) how to best structure my business to take advantage of all legally available write offs. The best part for me is Van's friendship and encouragement over the years. He is one of my most trusted professional advisors and I am beyond thankful for his help and support for my business.
If you need an honest, hard-working and trusted team to help you with your accounting and tax planning, there is no better team than NOVA Accounting.Wednesday 14th September 2022
Nick Robbins5 StarVan and the Nova Accounting team are outstanding tax professionals! Every year I actually look forward to tax reporting because I know the process will be smooth thanks to Van and his team. As someone who used to always file online, my taxes became a bit too complex for a lot of the online eFile tools including TurboTax. I wasn't super excited about having to switch over to a professional to have them completed, but looking back after 2 years of Nova Accounting's services... I'm very glad that I did. I absolutely recommend this team to anyone for their tax needs!Monday 17th February 2020
Tim Kordon3 StarHad my first chat with Van and his son BJ about 8 months ago. Gave him a $2,500 retainer to get started on coming up with a tax strategy. We reviewed the three options. One of the options was to wait and do nothing. Van has sent me an email to get into his portal. I could not find. it at first. He also couldn't tell me the email which it came from ( because it was not a NOVA accounting email) I left for my work season where I travel for which is usually about half a year. Where im am working 6 days a week from 8am to 7:30 pm. My business does not require me to monitor email. So ill usually ask parties I work with to text or call me. They have sent me a series of emails. Most Of which I did not reply to (mail because I didn't see them). Approx. 2 weeks ago I received a letter from Van firing me as a client ( do to me not being responsive enough). Never once did a receive a phone call, text, or voicemail telling me we need to get things moving faster. Again one of the options was to do nothing. For me the whole situation came out of left field because I was on the phone with him to ask him a few questions pertaining to my situation. Had explained I was out of town and would be digging in to get him the information he needed. To which he replied. "We will get started then". I had no indication there was anything wrong as of 1 month ago. After he fired me. There was no mention of was left of my $2,500 retainer and no refund of any remaining balance. Also no break down of the charges showing that the $2,500 was spent. I picked up the phone the next day and called to see if I could get an explanation of why I was fired, and never received a call back. I reached out to a mutual friend to see if I could get him to give me a ring. To he replied I was unwilling to give him the information he needed to effectively repent me. Which is simply not true. I was not aware because every notice was sent via email. If the dates were so critical, Why wouldn't you call your customer to make sure. I would never do that to one of my customers. I always try to act in my customers best interests and help they accomplish their goals and communicate in a way that works best for them. To be clear I am not very responsive via email ( as I travel a lot and manage multiple email accounts.). But am extremely responsive via text and phone. I would not. be writing a negative review at all if I had just been shown the courtesy of a returned phone call. But to go from a phone call 1 month ago (with no signs of a problem) to being fired. Is the most unprofessional experience Ive had with a CPA yet. Sad my last CPA passed away. Hope this helps someone in the future.
Drove over and spoke with Van personally. He clarified his actions. Hence Why I have raised my review from 1 to 3. I understand his position. I would still never handle a customer the way this was handledWednesday 12th October 2022
